What is
Microdermabrasion?
Your skin sloughs off old cells every day. However, aging slows down this process, which means dead skin sits on your face longer than it used to. This makes your complexion appear dull. Microdermabrasion speeds up this natural process by essentially “sanding” the top layer of your skin, removing dead skin cells, and revealing new, healthier skin underneath. At TCC, we perform traditional microdermabrasion, as well as the triply effective “wet” form, SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion® treatment.

How is Microdermabrasion Performed?
The microdermabrasion treatment is like getting an intense facial. Your aesthetician will first gently cleanse your skin. Then, the microdermabrasion is performed using a small, handheld device that uses aluminum oxide crystals to "sand" off the uppermost layer of your skin, removing dead skin cells, and revealing new, smoother skin underneath.
Although your concern may appear in just one area of your face—for example, age spots on your forehead—the microdermabrasion procedure will be performed on your entire face to maintain an even skin tone. Your aesthetician will then treat your skin with a calming toner, a moisturizing cream, and a sunblock.
Treatment sessions usually last about 30 to 45 minutes. The time required will depend on the extent of your skin condition, the number of areas to be treated, and the sizes of those areas.
Some skin conditions may require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results. Most patients see full results after four to six treatments, each performed about two weeks apart. However, you should see noticeable improvement after just one session.
The most common side effects of microdermabrasion are a temporarily pink or reddish skin tone, a feeling of tightness, and sun sensitivity, so be sure to wear sunscreen after your treatment (and always). Also, do not exfoliate your skin for a few days following the microdermabrasion procedure. There is no downtime required, and you will be able to resume your normal daily activities immediately following each session.

What is
SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion®?
The SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion® system is a particle-free, wet form of microdermabrasion that combines a gentle mechanical abrasion of the skin with an infusion of professional-strength, topical solutions tailored to your particular skin condition.
We offer this system at TCC because it performs three essential functions simultaneously:
- Exfoliation
Rather than blasting the skin with coarse crystals, the SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion® device uses diamond heads, which perform a smooth and painless abrasion of the skin. The diamond heads exfoliate, loosening dead, dry skin cells. - Extraction
While the diamond heads are exfoliating the skin, the device also applies a “vacuum massage” action to whisk away the loosened skin cells, deep clean the skin’s surface and pores, boost circulation, and stimulate collagen production, thereby helping to restore the skin’s elasticity. - Infusion
As the device performs those two actions, it also infuses the skin with one of four specifically formulated, professional-strength serums:- Vitamin C Skin Hydrating Solution with Antioxidants
- Lumixyl® Skin Brightening Pro-Infusion Solution
- Ultra Hydrating Anti-Aging Pro-Infusion Solution
- ClarityMD® Pore Clarifying Pro-Infusion Solution
While each serum has a specific purpose, they all provide intense moisturization that not only hydrates, but plumps the skin.

Considerations
If you have particularly sensitive skin, you may want to consider the SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion® treatment instead. It’s much gentler on the skin. However, you may still experience a bit more redness after a treatment, and it may take a little longer for it to subside.
In addition, if you’ve had any sort of viral infection such as a cold sore or shingles, or you have a recurring skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea, be sure to notify your aesthetician. You may need to wait a couple of weeks before undergoing any form of microdermabrasion.
