What is the
Allurion Gastric Balloon?
The Allurion Gastric Balloon is a swallowable balloon in the form of a capsule to help you lose weight. It is the only Gastric Balloon that doesn’t require any surgery, endoscopy or anesthesia for its placement and removal into the stomach. Once swallowed with a glass of water, the ballon is inflated in your stomach to take space and reduce the feeling of hunger. Read below how it is placed and how it works.
What Can the Allurion Gastric Balloon
Do for you?
The Allurion Gastric Balloon not only helps you to lose 10-15% of your total body weight within 16 weeks , but it helps to set you up for long term weight loss success. Included with the gastric balloon are digital devices, nutritional support and a program which help to guide and monitor your weight loss. Through means of an Allurion Connected Scale, Health Tracker Device (watch) and Mobile App you are able to form healthy habits which help to then maintain your weight loss.
A second balloon can also be placed later on, allowing you to lose up to 10% more total body weight. The average weight loss with a sequential balloon is 22.8%.
How does the
Allurion Gastric Balloon work?
Your first appointment at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic will be a consultation with one of our general surgeons. They will explain the procedure, take your health history and get an understanding of your weight loss goals to make sure you’re a candidate for the gastric balloon.
On the day of your procedure, the Allurion Gastric Balloon is in the form of a swallowable capsule that is attached to a tiny catheter. With the help of our general surgeon- he will guide you in swallowing the capsule. Once swallowed an X-Ray will be performed to ensure that it is in the correct placement within your stomach. The balloon will then be inflated with 550mL of solution through the catheter, which will expand the balloon. Another X-ray is taken to make sure the balloon is filled correctly and then the catheter is gently removed. The procedure is quick as it takes less than 20 minutes.
The Allurion Balloon is the first of its kind, requiring no anesthesia, no surgery and no endoscopy!
By taking up space in your stomach the Allurion Balloon reduces food intake and cravings. This in turn will help break the habits of snacking and encourage smaller portions at mealtimes. In the first 16 weeks most patients lose up to 10-15% of their total body weight.
During this 16 week period you will have several follow ups with our nutritionist to help support and guide you on your weight loss journey.
After approximately 16 weeks the balloon will deflate and pass through your digestive system naturally. By this time you will have developed healthier eating habits, which leads to more maintainable, long lasting results than just dieting alone.
If you wish to continue your weight loss journey, you can get a second Allurion Ballon placed after a pause. The results for sequential ballons demonstrate up to 23% total body weight loss.
