The Best Candidates for
Breast Lift Surgery

- You’ve lost volume in your breasts
- Your breast skin has been stretched, and you’ve lost skin elasticity (especially after weight loss, breastfeeding, etc.)
- Your areolas are stretched
- One of your breasts is lower than the other
- Your breasts lie flat against your chest

Remember that cosmetic surgery results in an alteration to your body and its appearance. We recommend that you be mentally, physically and emotionally prepared before undergoing a drastic change to your body, and that you prepare for your breast lift:
- Make sure you are at a stable weight
- Have good overall health
- Quit smoking, or at least cut back, especially in the time leading up to surgery
- Be sure you are not planning to have more children or breastfeed in the future
How is a
Breast Lift
Performed?
Breast lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia, so you won't feel any discomfort or pain during the procedure. It's outpatient surgery, so you won't need to stay overnight, and can go home the same day. Surgery generally lasts one and a half to two hours.
Taking into account your specific anatomy and desired results, your surgeon will make incisions on your breasts according to the amount of lift you need. Excess skin will be removed, and the nipple and areola will be moved up. The remaining skin is then sutured together.
After your breast lift, you will be in the recovery room for one to two hours. The incisions will be covered with sterile gauze, and your breasts will be wrapped in thick bandages to keep them in place so they can begin to heal. Our surgical staff will give your caregiver instructions to care for the surgery site.
Your surgeon will also prescribe pain medication to alleviate discomfort, and possibly an antibiotic to ward off infection.
Step-by-Step: Breast Lift Surgery
Breast Lift Types
Benelli Breast Lift
This technique uses circular incisions made around the areola, and is ideal for breasts that need minimal correction.
Lollipop Breast Lift
This technique also uses circular incisions made around the areola, and adds a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease, thus resembling the shape of a lollipop.
Wise Pattern Breast Lift
Also referred to as an Inverted-T, Inferior Pedicle, or Anchor Breast Lift, this technique is used on breasts that need a large degree of correction. It basically uses the lollipop incision with the addition of a horizontal incision in the breast crease.
The Crescent Breast Lift
This technique is rarely used, as it is meant for breasts with a low degree of sag. The incisions resemble crescent placed in the upper portion of the areola.
Breast Lift with Implant
This procedure is for women who need additional volume as well as a lift. Depending on the placement of the implant, a breast lift can occur as a result for women with a low degree of droop, without the need to make any incisions. For women who have a moderate to severe breast droop, breast lift incisions along with breast implant insertion will be needed to achieve optimal results.
Breast Lift Scars
Risks and Recovery
Breast lift recovery time varies from woman to woman, and depends on your overall health. In most cases, patients return to work in a few days, or possibly a week. It may take several weeks to a few months for all the swelling to subside, and for final results to appear.
Complications resulting from breast augmentation are rare, but can include infection, reactions to anesthesia, implant rupture (if silicone), implant deflation (if saline), hematoma (blood clot), and capsular contracture (scar tissue forming around the implant).

Question & Answer
-
Can I get a breast lift without implants?
Yes! If you have enough tissue or are happy with the current size of your breasts, a breast lift can give you back that perky, full look.
-
Do non-surgical breast lift procedures work?
The short answer is “No.” Many patients have asked if advertised creams and ointments really work to lift breasts. Unfortunately, there is no way to lift your breasts without surgery.
-
How long will a breast lift last?
As long as you maintain a stable weight, a breast lift should last you the rest of your life.
-
Can losing weight affect my breast lift?
Any drastic changes to the body can affect your breast lift. We highly recommend that you be at your ideal, healthy, maintainable weight before you go in for surgery.
-
Will a breast lift make my cup size smaller?
In general, no. It will lift and reshape the tissue into a firmer, more flattering shape. If you would like to reduce your breast size, some tissue can be removed in conjunction with this procedure. This would make it a breast reduction and breast lift combination procedure.
-
Should I get a breast lift after pregnancy?
Many women seek breast lift surgery after pregnancy or when they are finished breastfeeding, to regain the body they had before childbirth. You should also ask yourself whether you plan to have more children before you decide to have this procedure as future pregnancy can affect your breast lift results.
-
Will a breast lift make my breasts look fuller?
Many women have good cup sizes, but the fact that their breasts sag makes the distribution surface larger. By lifting and placing the natural tissue higher on the chest wall, a breast lift will confine and keep your breast tissue in place. If you want more volume, you may also be able to have a breast lift with implants.
-
What other procedures can I combine with my breast lift?
You can combine this procedure with several others such as breast augmentation, breast reduction, or a full Mommy Makeover. Almost any other surgical procedure can be done at the same time as a breast lift. Talk to us about this during your consultation.
-
Can I get breast augmentation after a breast lift?
Yes. However, we suggest you do both simultaneously if you are already sure you want to have the augmentation done. This will reduce risk and cost.
-
Can a breast lift remove stretch marks?
It depends. Because skin is removed during the breast lift procedure, your surgeon may eliminate skin that is affected by stretch marks. However, if stretch marks are in areas where the removal of skin is not beneficial for the procedure, then they will not be removed.
Most patients find that some of the stretch marks that appear near the areola or on the lower part of the breast are generally eliminated because of the techniques used during surgery.
If you are concerned about stretch marks, there are other, better ways to minimize their appearance. You may want to consider laser stretch mark removal.
