What is
Back Liposuction?
This is a difficult area from which to lose fat. Aside from general stubbornness, age and genetic predisposition to fat in this area can make losing it even harder. But there’s hope in the form of back liposuction, which is exactly what it sounds like—liposuction performed on the back to add contour, smooth skin, help you regain a more streamlined figure, and make you more comfortable in your clothes—and out of them.

Treatment Areas
Cervico-Dorsal Hump
Also known as the “buffalo hump,” this is an accumulation of fat in the spot where the neck and back meet. It’s fairly easy to remove with back liposuction as the fat is not fibrous.
Posterior Axillary Fat Pad
This is the area at the back of the underarm where soft fat tends to collect, causing a bulge that can be unsightly when wearing more revealing garments. If you have back liposuction to treat this spot, you may also want to have arm liposuction for this area, too.
Infrascapular Fat Pad
This is the area of the back area between the shoulder blades and above the waist, prone to “back rolls.” Here, the subcutaneous fat presents itself as a single layer, with no deep fat present, but with highly fibrous fat that can make back liposuction challenging.
Posterior Waist
A significant amount of fat tends to collect here, causing “love handles,” which affect the shape of the torso. This is a common problem area for many people. During back liposuction, you can also have abdominal liposuction to treat the front of this area just over the hips.
Lumbosacral Fat Pads
These are small pockets of fat located on the lower back. It’s important to know that back liposuction in this area presents a higher risk than other areas because of the numerous vital neurovascular structures that surround the lower spine in this region.

Considerations
No Deep Fat
As there is no deep fat in the back, your surgeon must use more caution to restrict liposuction to the subcutaneous fat, and avoid damaging the other layers of fat that are more delicate and injury prone.
Your surgeon will also take great care not to remove too much subcutaneous fat as this can leave the underlying tissues vulnerable to injury, and will also likely lead to poor aesthetic results.
Fibrous Fat
The fat in the back is extremely fibrous, which basically means it’s harder than fat in other locations such as the inner thigh, where it’s very soft. This is particularly true for men, and for those with a history of weight fluctuation as this increases the amount of fibrous tissue within the fat.
The fibrous nature of back fat means that certain liposuction methods which help to further break down the fat may be used. Please note this may also increase your overall liposuction cost.
Delicate Skin
The skin on your back is very delicate. It’s not subject to everyday stresses or environmental factors the way the skin on your arms or legs is. Please note that the liposuction incisions on your back may be more prone to hyperpigmentation and scarring. This is especially true if you have darker skin.
