What are
Facial Implants?
Facial implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit the face shapes and feature details that vary so widely from person to person. Your surgeon will help you choose the facial implant that will give you the results you’re looking for, while also maintaining a natural appearance, and balance with the rest of your face.
What Kind of
Facial Implants are Available?
- nose
- cheeks
- chin
- jaw
Facial implant surgery can be performed on its own, or in conjunction with other procedures such as rhinoplasty or a facelift. You may also be able to have facial implants simultaneously placed in more than one area, such as the chin and cheeks. Talk to your doctor to learn whether this will be feasible for you.
How is Facial Implant
Performed?
Once you decide to move forward with facial implant surgery, your doctor will provide you with instructions on how to prepare for the procedure, and will inform you about what to expect during recovery.
Facial implant surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you won't have to stay overnight in our clinic. However, you will need a friend or loved one to accompany you and drive you home. The surgery can take up to two hours, depending on the area of the face being treated, and how much correction is necessary.
A local anesthetic is often sufficient to manage pain, but we can also administer general anesthesia if that will make you more comfortable. Please note, this will increase the overall cost of your surgery.
During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision in the target area. Your doctor will try to place the incision in an inconspicuous location. The incision will allow him to insert the facial implant under the skin, and position it correctly. Once this is achieved, the incision will be closed and sutured with great care in an effort to minimize visible scarring.
Your surgeon may prescribe pain medication to alleviate any discomfort, as well as antibiotic ointment to help prevent infection. Your surgeon will instruct you on when to return to the clinic for your follow-up appointment, and will provide you with any necessary further instructions at that time.
